It rises, crests, and crashes, pouring itself out until there is nothing left to give. Then, without resistance, it is drawn back into the depths to begin again.

Prayer is one of the most familiar words in the Christian life, yet it remains one of its deepest mysteries. The Catechism of the Catholic Church describes prayer as “the encounter of God’s thirst with ours” (CCC 2560). That line alone could occupy a lifetime of reflection.
