Living What Matters

Each day we live is a small reflection, a microcosm of our whole life. The choices we make, the desires we follow, the attention we give… all of it quietly reveals what we value most. And if we are honest, many days slip by without our hearts ever pausing to ask the deeper question: Is this drawing me closer to God?

Scripture invites us to see life not through a worldly lens of achievement, accumulation, or comparison, but through an eternal one. Proverbs reminds us:

“How much better to acquire wisdom than gold! To acquire understanding is more desirable than silver.”

This is the biblical reordering of priorities: wisdom over wealth, understanding over success, relationship over accomplishment. Solomon embodies this beautifully. When given the chance to ask for anything, he chose wisdom. He chose the inner life over the outer shine. He chose what lasts.

Jesus does the same in His parables.
In comparing the reign of God to the merchant searching for fine pearls, He shows us God’s priorities—a love that seeks, a heart that values what is truly precious. In comparing the Kingdom to buried treasure, He turns the question toward us: What do you treasure? What are you willing to rearrange, release, or pursue for the sake of God?

Wisdom literature gives us a tender image of what it looks like to live with holy priorities:

Happy the one who meditates on wisdom
and reflects on knowledge;
Who ponders her ways in his heart
and understands her paths;
Who encamps near her house
and fastens his tent pegs next to her walls.

This is the posture of someone who knows what matters. Someone who stays close to wisdom.
Someone who builds their life near the things of God. Someone who refuses to drift into triviality or distraction.

Each day becomes an opportunity to ask:
Am I encamping near wisdom?
Am I fastening my tent pegs close to God’s heart?
Is my life—today—aligned with eternity?

When our priorities are shaped by God’s reign rather than the world’s noise, the soul becomes clear again. Wisdom grows. Understanding deepens. And our daily life becomes a quiet, steady movement toward the One who is our true treasure. This is living what matters.
