The living Word still speaks—here, now, in the very texture of our day. As a spiritual director, I often remind those I accompany that Scripture is not merely a text to be studied but a presence to be welcomed. Through our imagination, we allow the Word to take root within us. We let it move from the page into the heart, from hearing into responding.
This is the sacred invitation: to let the Word dwell, to let it shape, to let it speak in the quiet places where God is already waiting.
Imaginative prayer is not pretending. It is consenting. It is opening the inner room of the soul so that the Spirit may plant something living there. When we respond to that invitation, however small, however tentative, we discover that the Word is not distant. It is alive. It is forming us.
Perhaps today you might pause and ask:
Where is the Word seeking to take root in me?
What invitation is quietly waiting for my “yes”?
