Grounded In Distraction

It is astonishing how quickly the world can pull me off center these days. One moment I’m grounded, breathing, aware and the next I’m swept into noise, urgency, comparison, or the low‑grade overwhelm that hums beneath modern life.

It’s a gift of discernment to recognize that not all distraction is neutral. Sometimes it feels like a tactic of the evil spirit, a subtle tug toward disorder, fragmentation, and forgetfulness of who I am and whose I am. The enemy doesn’t need dramatic temptations; a scattered mind is often enough.

But God’s call is beautifully simple. Micah reminds us:

“What does the Lord require of you? Only to do justice, and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God.”

That’s it. Not to manage everything. Not to keep up with the world’s pace. Not to carry every burden alone.

Just justice.
Just goodness.
Just humility.
Just walking with God.

When I return to this instruction, something inside unclenches. The swirl quiets. The path narrows in the best way. I remember that the spiritual life is not about heroic multitasking, it’s about faithful presence. It’s about choosing the next right thing, the next loving thing, the next humble step.

And maybe that’s the invitation today:
to notice the distractions without shame,
to name the overwhelm without fear,
and to gently turn back toward the One who asks so little and gives so much.

A life of justice, goodness, and humble companionship with God is not complicated. It is simply lived one grounded moment at a time.
