Recently I read a reflection from St. John Eudes and the words he voiced had a gentle insistence: place everything, absolutely everything, into the hands of God’s goodness. Not because we are careless, but because we are loved. Not because life is simple, but because Goodness is deeper than every complexity we carry.
When we trust this Goodness, something tender and transformative happens. We find ourselves not just believing in God’s care, but becoming smitten with it—captivated by the way divine love moves quietly through our days, arranging all things for the greatest good.
Falling in love with God’s goodness is not sentimental; it is the most practical thing. It changes how we make decisions, how we hold our responsibilities, how we walk through uncertainty. Love simplifies what fear complicates. It frees us to undertake courageous tasks for God’s glory, knowing we do nothing alone and everything in Him.
When we are smitten with Goodness, surrender becomes natural. We stop gripping our health, our reputation, our work, our family, our past, our future. We entrust them to the One who watches over every detail with fatherly tenderness.
And in that surrender, courage grows.
Peace grows.
Love grows.
This is the quiet miracle of falling in love with God’s goodness: we begin to live from a place where everything—our tasks, our cares, our hopes—rests in the arms of the One who delights in bringing good out of all things.
We become smitten with Goodness!
