Life can be a struggle in ways we never expect. Some seasons ask more of us than we feel we have to give. And when someone we love dies by suicide, the weight of that struggle becomes almost indescribable, disorienting and the ordinary seems impossible. Hope can feel out of reach.
If you’re in that tender place or walking beside someone who is, I wanted to pass along the following:
Finding Hope: A Conversation on Suicide, Mental Health, and God’s Compassion
On World Suicide Prevention Day, join Dr. Ana Laura López and Fr. Ron Rolheiser, OMI for an online conversation offering a compassionate and hope-filled perspective on suicide.
Suicide is often surrounded by despair, stigma, and condemnation. This gathering invites us to consider another perspective: suicide as an illness—one that, like many illnesses, can be prevented and treated.
Together, Dr. López and Fr. Rolheiser will explore how this understanding can reshape the way we respond to those who are struggling, those walking alongside someone at risk, and those living with the pain and questions that can follow a suicide.
At the heart of the conversation is a pastoral question: Where is God in the midst of this suffering?
Through reflection on mental health, prevention, postvention, and faith, Finding Hope will invite participants to recognize God’s compassionate presence and consider how our communities can respond with greater understanding, care, and hope.
This online event is especially intended for those who have been affected by suicide, those who are struggling themselves, and those who accompany or care for others. It is also open to anyone interested in learning more about mental health, faith, and compassionate responses to suicide.
