I continue to ponder this weeks Gospel. This people and their stories are rich soil. There is a moment that stops me: God says to Solomon, “Ask something of me and I will give it to you.” It is an open invitation limitless, generous, breathtaking.
And Solomon asks not for long life, not for riches, not for victory, but for an understanding heart.
How would you respond?
The Lord was pleased with this desire. Solomon chose what cannot be lost. Health and wealth can slip through our fingers, but wisdom, true spiritual understanding, aligns us with the very heart of God. It is the treasure that endures.
This desire of Solomon mirrors the man who sells everything to buy the field with the hidden treasure. It mirrors the merchant who risks his livelihood to obtain the pearl of great price. They make these sacrifices with certainty because the treasure corresponds to the deepest call and purpose of God in their lives.
And what is that purpose? To be conformed to the image of the Christ, our true destiny.
