Your Heart, Your Identity

“I am my heart.” This simple phrase from the encyclical has become a profound guide for me. It explains that our heart is what gives us our spiritual identity. While algorithms can predict our thoughts, they can’t predict our heart.

My heart is what makes me, me. As “Dilexit Nos”  states, “My heart is not the heart of another.” This is a powerful reminder that my belovedness is unique and irreplaceable. God knows my heart, and in knowing my heart, He knows me completely. This is the truth of Psalm 139:13-14: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

What is one unique quality or passion that comes from your heart and makes you, you?

Today, do something that expresses this unique part of your heart, whether it’s through art, a conversation, or a simple act of kindness.
