Finding God's Goodness

Week Ten: The Virtue of Love. Detachment

Month Three: The Virtue of Prudence. Valuing God and finding love.

The great spiritual principal is detachment. The heart of the spiritual life is to love God and to love everything else for the sake of God. As I seek to find God’s goodness day by day, there are four things I stive to love for their intrinsic value:  God, my neighbor, myself, and my body.

Week Ten: The Virtue of Love. Infused Habit

Month Three: The Virtue of Prudence. Valuing God and finding love.

The season of Lent allows me to contemplate my habits and determine what I need to change in order to turn my whole being to be closer to God. It allows me the intentional time to reconcile, raise my heart and return wholeheartedly to my creator.

Week Ten: The Virtue of Love. Drawn to Good

Month Three: The Virtue of Prudence. Valuing God and finding love.

Are you drawn toward the good? If not, don’t lose hope. I believe we are all are fundamentally drawn to God’s goodness, but it can be a struggle. I don’t think many of us make the decision to be evil. However, the dark forces are constantly pulling us and attracting us. It takes supernatural strength to resist the lull of becoming numb and asleep to the comforts the world provides.

Week Ten: The Virtue of Love. Spiritual Physics

Month Three: The Virtue of Prudence. Valuing God and finding love.

Just as there are physical laws that govern material objects, there are spiritual laws that govern the behavior and the relationships between human beings. We can be in tune with these laws in harmony or we can be in opposition, usually unhappy.

Turning to God: Looking for God’s Goodness and Weekly Reflection Summary

Month Three: The Virtue of Prudence. Valuing God and finding love.

Looking for God’s Goodness in contemplation and prayer.

As we turn to God, we are taught how to love. Not as the world loves but with a merciful, compassionate life-giving love. A powerful exercise is to meditate on 1 Corinthians, God’s definition of what love is and place your name in place of love.

Quiet your heart and enjoy His presence … He is leading you to love. “And now these three remain:  faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” (1 Corinthians 13:13)

Week Nine: Turning to God. Love of Neighbor

Month Three: The Virtue of Prudence. Valuing God and finding love.

As I walk the path of God’s love, I’m called not only to love God with all my heart and soul but to love my neighbor as myself. How well I love myself is a topic for another time. But if I love the way God calls me to love I am a light that shines through the darkness in others’ lives.

Week Nine: Turning to God. Highest Calling

Month Three: The Virtue of Prudence. Valuing God and finding love.

Today is Ash Wednesday, where we enter into the desert of our souls to align ourselves with our suffering Lord in anticipation of the Resurrection. As we turn to God, we find our highest calling. As we follow our Lord’s example, one of the simplest rules we are to follow is the hardest to live at times:  do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I have many opportunities to practice this throughout my day when I meet people who want my attention, face people with different opinions or even drive on the freeway.

We are called to be merciful.
