Week Fifteen. My Faith. Looking for God’s Goodness and Weekly Reflection Summary

Smitten With Goodness
Month Four – Loving Myself. Fortitude with Faith produces patience.

Looking for God’s Goodness in contemplation and prayer.

In Silence We Await.  The faithful pray and meditate on the great sacrifice our Lord has made for all of us and anticipate His Resurrection from the dead-on Easter Sunday. I spend the day in the quiet, thanking Jesus for the ultimate gift that He gave to all of us on Good Friday.  I try to place myself in the confusion and fear (as well as hope) that the Blessed Mother, the apostles, and the other witnesses to Jesus’ Passion undoubtedly felt on that first Holy Saturday.  In doing so, I realize how fortunate I am to know how the story ends and that Jesus Christ will be rising on Sunday morning! Let’s Look for God’s Goodness in contemplation and prayer, meditating on this reflection from Every Sacred Sunday.

Week Fifteen: My Faith. Passion

Smitten With Goodness
 
Month Four – Loving Myself. Fortitude with Faith produces patience

For much of my life, I was caught up in what people would say instead of basing reality on their behaviors.  This likely stems from having significant relationships with people in my life who were emotionally unavailable to me in my formative years.  

Today is Good Friday, the day where Action Speak Louder than Words. Jesus dies for me to live. A day where we celebrate His awesome proof of love of us. Resurrection will be the signature of proof, this demonstrated love, showing how I must love Him and those around me. This is the new order, my new commandment, and the way to eternal life. By dying he made us alive. By the cross, I am redeemed.

“Let us admire, congratulate, rejoice, love, praise, adore; because through the death of our Redeemer we are called from darkness to light, from death to life, from exile to home, from grief to everlasting joy” Saint Augustine

His head is bent to give us the kiss of peace, his arms extended to receive us, his hands pierced to pour his blessings upon us, his heart opened to love us, his feet nailed to the cross to soften our hearts and remain with us.

Thank You, Lord, for filling me with hope, confidence and courage as I look in trust at Your crucified body.

We have spent the past 40 days of Lent renewing and reinvigorating our faith in preparation for Easter. The sacrifices and penances we have made have softened our hearts to be ready. On Holy Thursday, we Enter the Easter Triduum.

The Stations of the Cross are a 14-step Catholic devotion that commemorates Jesus Christ’s last day on Earth as a man. The 14 devotions, or stations, focus on specific events of His last day, and are commonly used as a mini pilgrimage as the individual moves from station to station.

The power of the cross is magical. Such a horrific event and such a demonstration of love! My faith allows me to accept this reality and I sink into knowing how much I am loved and the fact that I am redeemed.

In this season of Lent, we are called to pray, fast, and give alms as we prepare our hearts for Easter.  The beauty of service or giving alms is that it makes me think of things outside myself.  It brings me into connection and see the direct impact I can have on another person and the impact they have on me.

Week Fourteen: Fortitude.  Fasting (More versus Enough)

Month Four: The Virtue of Fortitude. Loving Myself through eyes of Faith produces patience.

I find myself at times in the cycle of wanting more. Whether it’s overeating, spending, or scrolling through social media, I’m in a space of not enough.  Rather than giving into these impulses, when I focus on simplicity and gratitude, it breaks this cycle of wanting more.
