There is a tender question God seems to ask each of us, quietly, beneath the noise of our days: How often do you come to Me for the graces I long to give you? Not the graces you feel worthy of, not the ones you think you’ve earned but the ones He pours out simply because He loves.
We sometimes imagine grace as a rare commodity, something reserved for extraordinary moments. But grace is the daily bread of the spiritual life. It strengthens us when we are weary, softens us when we are rigid, steadies us when we are afraid, and restores us when we have wandered. Grace enlarges our hearts, and makes room for compassion, patience, and trust. It is the quiet power that helps us become more like Christ.
And yet, grace does something for God as well. When we come to Him, even with empty hands, even with distracted minds, even with hearts that feel dull, we console His Heart. We respond to His love. We allow Him to give what He longs to give. In the words of Jesus: “You, at least, come to Me as often as possible and take these graces they do not want to accept. In this way you will console My Heart.”
There is sorrow in His voice:
“Oh, how indifferent are souls to so much goodness, to so many proofs of love! My Heart drinks only of the ingratitude and forgetfulness of souls living in the world. They have time for everything, but they have no time to come to Me for graces.”
Grace is not only a gift for us, it is a relationship. It is the meeting place where God’s generosity and our need touch. It is where His Heart and ours rest together.
So today, pause and ask yourself:
Where do you turn when you need strength?
Where do you go when you feel empty?
How often do you seek the graces God is already offering?
Let your heart come to Him, simply, honestly, frequently. Let grace do its quiet work in you.
And let your coming be a consolation to the One who loves without measure.
