The central message of “Dilexit Nos” is a simple yet profound one: “He loved us.” For so long, I spent my life trying to earn love, but this truth reminds me that I don’t have to.
Christ’s love is a gift given freely, a love that calls me “friend” and waits for me with an open heart.
This unconditional love is the foundation of my sense of belovedness. It’s the peace that comes from knowing that nothing I do, or don’t do, can ever separate me from it. As the encyclical states, “The Christian…came to know and believe in the love of God for us only through the unconditional love of Jesus Christ.”
As Scripture assures us in Romans 8:38-39: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
What is one area of your life where you still feel like you need to earn God’s love?
Today, spend five minutes simply receiving God’s love, without feeling the need to earn it or prove your worth.
