Being Loved

Finding Common Ground

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what truly connects us. In a world that often seems to focus on what divides us, Pope Francis’s encyclical “Dilexit Nos”  on the Heart of Jesus reminds me that we are all united by the experience of the heart.

The heart isn’t just a muscle; it’s the core of who we are—the source of our deepest identity, convictions, and capacity to love. Recognizing this truth in myself and others helps me to own my belovedness. It’s in this shared humanity that we see we were all created for connection.

As Proverbs 4:23 says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” It’s in our hearts that we find the common ground God created in us all.

How can we look beyond superficial differences and see the shared humanity in the heart of someone we disagree with?

Today, I invite you to make an effort to find a point of shared connection with a person you see as different from you.
