I often find myself caught up in the “superficiality of our modern age.” “Dilexit Nos” , which I’ve been reflecting on, offers a powerful critique, speaking of how we can become “insatiable consumers and slaves to the mechanisms of a market unconcerned about the deeper meaning of our lives.”
This challenges me to pause and remember that my worth isn’t found in what I buy or consume, but in the truth of my heart. Rediscovering my heart as the coordinating center of my soul helps me to see that my belovedness isn’t a product to be purchased; it’s a truth to be lived.
In Philippians 4:6-7, we are reminded, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
What is one area of your life where you feel like you are a “slave to the market” rather than a person of the heart?
Go for a walk without your phone or any distractions. Pay attention to the world around you, allowing your heart to be present to the moment.
