The Balance of And

Reflections for contemplative living

Anxiety and peace.  Fear and faith. Am I living well in the balance of “and” today? I’m learning that I really don’t like “in between” but in this vulnerable place, I hold the tension of “and.” This is the holy space in the middle of things despite my wanting to be firmly placed in what I deem “the better side.”

It isn’t our strength that brings God‘s presence on earth, it is in our vulnerability. The vulnerability when we as individuals and as communities are willing to learn, grow, and be curious. When we are willing to engage in new ideas and new people. The Christian life isn’t easy and we face many hardships. But when we suffer with Christ and let our weaknesses and faults transform our hearts, we learn the ways of the Lord. The fullness of our humanity becomes revealed. We are aware of our sins and with God’s help, we are shown how to resist the temptation of arrogance and selfish power. We learn to be vulnerable amidst the chaos of our lives, invited to live deeply and lovingly.

What new idea do you need to consider today?

Thank you, Lord, for teaching me your ways.
