Day 21: Sending God’s Mercy

Reflections Jacquelyne Rocan

Do I remember to pray for the needs of my family and friends?

There are so many people that suffer, and in need of prayer and support.  My heart hurts when I see news reports of natural disasters, wars, violence, and injustices of every kind that impact people throughout the world.  I take time to add those people to my prayer list, asking God to protect and comfort them and to ease their sufferings.

While it is important to pray for the needs of people suffering in our world, I need to remind myself that there is, unfortunately, plenty of suffering and pain impacting my family members and dear friends in this broken world in which we live.  Do I remember to pray for family and friends who have died and ask God for mercy on their souls?  Do I remember to pray for family and friends that are experiencing illnesses of every sort and are in need of God’s comfort and strength to sustain them?  Do I remember to pray for family and friends that are in need of work so that they can provide for their loved ones?  Do I remember to pray for family and friends that are suffering through a difficult time at home, work or school and need to know that they are heard and will survive their trials?  Although I cannot remove the pain and suffering from those I love, I can always pray for them so that they may receive God’s love and mercy and know that they are not alone.

How have I prayed for the needs of my loved ones today?

Thank you, God, for the gift of my family and friends.  I pray that You will always bless them and keep them safe.  Please watch over them and keep them protected in Your loving embrace.  Authentically Yours.
