Looking Pretty

Reflections for contemplative living

For much of my life, my beauty was outwardly focused, concerned about the exterior, and the way I presented myself. Whether it be the latest fashion or an executive title at work.  Not necessarily conscious of these behaviors, they were my path to my self-preservation of achievement and worth.

As I’m learning to rest in who God created me to be, I’m realizing it is the light that shines from within that brings true beauty into the world. Like a stained glass window, the beauty is at its peak when the light plays through the various colors.  The darkness is the place where I refuse God’s love. Where I accept forgiveness and healing to my human condition.

What are the dark places where I refuse God’s love?

Lord, help me look deeper into my daily life and ask myself some hard questions.
