A Recipe For Life

Reflections for contemplative living

Recently I read where a 116 year old Vincentian nun attributed her recipe for life “to prayer and a cup of hot cocoa”.

A morning routine can set the tone for the entire day, so it’s important to have a good one. You probably already start each day with a cup of coffee. And if coffee starts your engine, prayer can keep it going. Even Archbishop Fulton Sheen noted that the average American is physically, biologically, physiologically, and neurologically unable to do anything worthwhile before he has a cup of coffee and that goes for prayer too. He even said “Let them have coffee before meditation.”

I know that my life changed when I anchored my prayer time and gratitude each morning to my coveted first cup of coffee.  This drew me into a deeper relationship with God. It allowed me to slow down and thank God for the new day with each sip.

How are you making space for God in your life? Is there room for Him to do His holy work?

Thank you, Lord, for giving us the recipe for life which is resting in You.
