Finding God's Goodness

Week Fourteen: Fortitude.  Fasting (More versus Enough)

Month Four: The Virtue of Fortitude. Loving Myself through eyes of Faith produces patience.

I find myself at times in the cycle of wanting more. Whether it’s overeating, spending, or scrolling through social media, I’m in a space of not enough.  Rather than giving into these impulses, when I focus on simplicity and gratitude, it breaks this cycle of wanting more.

In this season of Lent, we are called to pray, fast, and give alms as we prepare our hearts for Easter.  Fasting tames my wants and desires and creates space for God to show me His wants and desires.  The small sacrifice of giving up a meal or two allows me to show my love for my God. A small price to pay for what He has done for me. It strengthens my trust that God is in control, and I am not. My physical hunger mirrors my spiritual hunger, which can only be satisfied with God’s love. Turning away from things of this world allows me to seek God at a deeper and richer level. Knowing a love that quenches my thirst and satisfies my hunger, I live in the space of enough.

But I say walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

Galatians 5:16

Come Holy Spirit, light a fire of enough in my heart and the heart of Your people.
