How do you define true love? Growing up, I didn’t have a good definition, so I made up an unhealthy one that bordered on codependency. I remember the day when my pre-teen daughter asked me what love was and words of truth came out of my mouth.
Love is patient, love is kind, the words of God’s love.
So much of what our culture portrays as love is sensual, objectification, and self-love driven by ego. It’s radical to use the truth as our measure and to hold ourselves accountable. After doing some thinking around my goals and priorities around how I want to be remembered in life, I discerned that I want to be remembered by how well I loved. When I set that intention, it became the lens through which I view my world, for both myself and those I encounter each day. How do you define love?
Lord, thank You for showing me the goodness of Your love.
