We can all use faithful friends. Ones who are with us in our time of need, who never forsake or fail us for friendship is the support of life. It’s easy to be a friend in prosperity and help our friends, but it’s a bit more difficult to manage during times of adversity. We are called to give counsel, offer our best endeavors, and sympathize with our friends with all our heart. If necessary, we are to endure hardship, offering respect and justice where it is due.

To live a meaningful and blessed life, we are to do two things: love God and care for our neighbor. Justice is where we give our neighbor their due. When we work for justice, we find peace. As our acts of justice grow in love, we bear the fruit of generosity. Love is not defined by the values of our culture. It is defined by God’s truth, the living word that inspires us and calls us to action as we respond to the call. 

What if we approached our difficulties with a different attitude. One of opportunity rather than despair. Rather than asking why me, we ask why not me? What would it look like to embrace the trials of life with receptivity, believing they are there to help us mature and purify our heart? 

I’m nothing more than willing and sometimes not even that. But you constantly pull me towards you to fill in the gaps. You fill the empty spaces that seek to be full. You call me to your presence bringing goodness and light.

We are all wandering around in the world, trying to figure out how to live. At times, we even strive to live our best life.  We are actually called to live this way at all times, striving, seeking, doing the will of God, which in essence is to love God and love each other. This brings a generous heart into the world, building a true culture of justice.
