The One for Whom My Heart Was Made

The deepest truth about the human heart is also the simplest: it was made for Christ. Every longing, every ache for meaning, every restless search for peace bends toward Him like a flower turning toward the sun. He is the heart’s Principle, its Terminus, its Goal, the One in whom all our seeking finally comes to rest.

We often hesitate before this truth. Something in us fears the nearness of God, as though His presence might expose too much or demand too much. Yet the One who comes is the Good Shepherd, the One who guards, guides, and gathers. His strength is never harsh; His sovereignty is never domination. His truth stands when every earthly structure trembles, and His gospel—like seed divinely sown—quietly grows, prevails, and brings life.

To open the door to Christ is not to lose ourselves; it is to finally find ourselves. When we welcome Him as an honored guest, the fragrance of our love rises like a precious offering, and He blesses us with a peace the world cannot give. He alone knows the secret depths of the human heart. He alone can quiet its doubts and still its restless yearnings.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son… (Jn 3:16) This is the foundation of our confidence. We are held by a love that precedes us, accompanies us, and never lets us go.

So we can pray with the psalmist:

The Lord is my light and my help;
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
before whom shall I shrink?

Even when shadows gather, even when enemies encircle, even when the world feels unsteady, the heart anchored in Christ remains unshaken. There is, in the end, just one desire that gathers all others into itself: to live in the house of the Lord, to savor His sweetness, to behold His beauty.

And when we dwell there, truly dwell, our heads are lifted high. Fear loosens its grip. Joy rises. Song returns.

Christ is the end of our eternal quest, our way, our truth, our life, our blessed peace.
