The Thirst of Jesus

“Dilexit Nos”  I’ve been reflecting on brings up a powerful idea: Jesus’s “thirst for love.” He doesn’t just give love; he ardently desires it in return. This is a humbling thought and a profound call to my own heart.

My response to his love shouldn’t be with burdensome duties but with a simple, spontaneous act of love. To love him in return is the ultimate way to own my belovedness, because in that exchange, I become fully alive.

As Jesus said to the Samaritan woman, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life” (John 4:13-14).

What is one way you can respond to Jesus’s “thirst” for your love today?

Go to a quiet place and tell Jesus, in your own words, that you love him and want to respond to his love with your own.
