“Dilexit Nos” I’ve been reflecting on uses a beautiful phrase: “The Lord knows the fine science of the caress.” This is more than a poetic image; it’s a profound truth.
Jesus’ healings were often not done from a distance but in close proximity, with a touch or a caress. This reminds me that God is not a removed, distant being, but one who desires to be intimately close to us.
He knows us completely and wants to be with us in our pain. My belovedness is found in this intimate closeness, in the gentle caress of God’s love. As Psalm 147:3 says, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
In what area of your life do you feel most brokenhearted, and how can you invite God to caress and heal that wound?
Place your hand over your heart and spend a moment in silence, asking God to be close to you and to bind up your wounds.
