The Heart and Intimacy

“Dilexit Nos” uses a powerful example of a character who had “no heart,” making him incapable of true intimacy or closeness. This resonated deeply with me. True intimacy, whether with God or with others, requires an open heart. Without it, we become strangers to ourselves.

My journey to own my belovedness is a journey of opening my heart, even when it feels scary, so I can experience the deep connection for which I was made. As the document states, “Without a heart, there is no possibility of closeness or intimacy; one is even a stranger to oneself.”

God desires this intimacy with us, as seen in Proverbs 23:26: “My son, give me your heart and let your eyes delight in my ways.”

How can we open our hearts more to true intimacy with God and with others, even when it feels vulnerable?

Have a conversation with someone you trust and practice sharing something from your heart, not just from your head.
