Regenerated in Christ

Reflections for contemplative living

As a daughter of the King, I find myself more often than not kicking my crown to the curb living a worldly life rather than in my divinity. Surely I’m not the only one!

I recently read a quote from St. Leo the Great that made me pause: “For all, regenerated in Christ, are made kings by the sign of the cross; they are consecrated priests by the oil of the Holy Spirit, so that beyond the special service of our ministry as priests, all spiritual and mature Christians know that they are a royal race and are sharers in the office of the priesthood.”

If I’m king-like, what kind of ruler am I? Am I harsh and judgmental or kind and compassionate?

For what is more king-like than to find myself ruler over my body after having surrendered my soul to God? And what is more priestly than to promise the Lord a pure conscience and offer the altar of my heart?

Lord, today I’m straightening up my crown as a mature Christian and running in the royal race!
