Finding God's Goodness

Week Thirty-Eight. Integrity. Blessed.

Valuing My Body. Temperance with love leads to chastity.

We are given divine warning signs when we get off track but do we pay attention? The Beatitudes give us the playbook on how we are called to a life of integrity, to be Christ-like and blessed.

So often we are impatient, seeking our rewards in the here and now rather than keeping our eyes focused on our eternal rewards.  If we receive our consolation now through wealth, gluttony, laughter and praise, we can be focused on these as our core which can lead us away from a life of integrity as Christians, where our reward is in Heaven.

This isn’t to say we won’t have these wonderful things here on earth and shouldn’t enjoy them if we do. But we need to live with the responsibility to give to others what we have been given, and to ease the burdens of others.

Where my heart is, there also is my treasure. Is heavenly, eternal happiness my heart’s desire or are earthly, temporal delights?

Blessed are you who are poor, for the Kingdom of God is yours. Blessed are you who are now hungry, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who are now weeping, for you will laugh. Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude and insult you, and denounce your name as evil on account of the Son of Man. Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold, your reward will be great in heaven. For their ancestors treated the prophets in the same way. But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation. But woe to you who are filled now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will grieve and weep. Woe to you when all speak well of you, for their ancestors treated the false prophets in this way.

Luke 6:20-26

Father, thank you for helping me to seek the things that are above.
