We are promised the gift of peace. I often use this as a litmus test for myself to see if I’m functioning in God’s will or my own. If I’m connected and living in a relationship with God, the wholeness of who I am, body, mind and spirit, I have a sense of calm and trusting peace.
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation.
John 16:33
It is vital to examine our “peace” and see if it truly speaks of the peace God offers us. Try substituting “satisfaction” for the word “peace,” and see where your heart has tried to find consolation this past week. Then substitute the word “fulfillment.” This is the peace that Christ brings through the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Some passing satisfactions are part of life, and I can be grateful for them. When I seek them for their own sake, however, I can easily drown out the life of the Spirit, who comes to bring us deep peace and fulfillment in life. Prayer and the order of my life permits me to have constant contact with sources of grace and divine inspiration. This connects me in love and to love, body, mind and spirit.
Thank you, Lord for Your wisdom, in being the One who satisfies and fulfills.
