Giving Christ Glory

As I sit with Jesus’ prayer in John 17, one phrase quietly captures my heart: “I have been glorified in them.” What a tender mystery. Jesus looks upon His disciples, frail and imperfect as they are, and sees in them a reflection of His own life. He finds joy in hearts that belong to the Father.

So often we imagine that God is most pleased with us when we are strong, capable, and successful. Yet the Gospel reveals something different. Christ is glorified when we come to Him in poverty of spirit, aware of our need for mercy. He delights in humble hearts that no longer pretend to have it all together.

Neediness before God is not a flaw; it is the place where love begins. When we finally admit, “Lord, I cannot do this without You,” grace finds room to enter. Humility softens our hearts and frees us from the exhausting effort of self-sufficiency. Purity of heart emerges when our deepest desire becomes simply this: to belong to Jesus and to do the Father’s will.

There is a quiet joy that comes when we stop trying to figure it all out and start trusting, resting, accepting. We discover that holiness is less about accomplishing great things for God and more about allowing God to accomplish His life within us. In that surrender, Christ is glorified. His light shines through our weakness, His strength through our dependence, His love through our openness.

I invite you to rest in your neediness today. Sit quietly before the Lord. With each breath pray inwardly, “Jesus, I need You.” Do not explain, justify, or fix anything. Simply rest in your dependence upon Him.

Grant us the grace to rejoice in our need for You!
