Who Will We Trust?

I wonder if one of the deepest questions beneath every decision, every disappointment, and every uncertainty is simply this: Who will I trust?

Not what outcome I trust. Not what plan I trust. Not what I hope will happen next.

But whom I trust.

We speak often about trusting God, but trust is not a warm feeling we stumble into. It is not wishful thinking dressed up as faith. Trust is a quiet act of surrender. A deliberate resting of our weight upon the faithfulness of Another.

And perhaps that is where some of us find ourselves today.

Maybe you’ve been leaning heavily on your own understanding, searching for certainty in answers, strategies, or future possibilities. Yet your Father has not offered you certainty about every step ahead. He has offered you His presence.

Perhaps your path looks nothing like you imagined it would. Mine doesn’t either.

Still, the invitation remains: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all the ways that seem reasonable, acknowledge Him. In all the ways that seem unreasonable, acknowledge Him there, too.

Sometimes we assume a “straight path” means an easy one. But perhaps the straightness God promises has less to do with smooth travel and more to do with a true destination. A path may wander through wilderness and still lead us exactly where we need to go.

And isn’t that so often God’s way?

He led His people into the desert, not because He had abandoned them, but so they might discover the limits of their own power and the abundance of His provision. The wilderness became the place where His faithfulness was no longer merely spoken of, but experienced.

Perhaps He is doing the same with us.

The deepest decision before us today may not be what we will do next. It may be whether we will entrust ourselves to the God who has already proven Himself faithful.

And when we walk in the light of His trustworthiness, even falteringly, we find Him waiting for us on the path.

Faithful still. Faithful there. Faithful all along.
