During yesterday’s prayer time, on the Feast Day of the Holy Guardian Angels, I was awakened once more to the incredible gift God has given each of us through their presence.
We see images of angels throughout our world. In fact, I’ve been working on a needlepoint angel that was passed onto me so this angel has been with me for a while. How often do you truly think about your guardian angel? How often are you aware of the loving guidance and protection that they provide throughout our days? In the busyness of life, it is easy to overlook this beautiful reality, that we never walk alone.
One of the most consoling truths of our faith is that God’s providence is deeply personal. He does not watch over us from afar; He lovingly cares for each of us and entrusts a guardian angel to guide and protect us on our journey toward Him. Our guardian angels quietly accompany us through life’s joys and challenges, helping us navigate the perils of this earthly life while encouraging us to keep our eyes fixed on eternity.
As I reflected yesterday, I thought about the many times God’s hand has been evident in my life through unexpected protection, timely wisdom, or a sense of peace in difficult moments. How many of those moments were aided by the gentle presence of my guardian angel? We may never fully know this side of heaven, but we can trust that they are faithfully carrying out the mission God has entrusted to them.
Imagine what your angel looks like? Where do you think you challenge your angel in your day? In what circumstances is your angel cheering you on or breathing life into a situation? Where might your angel be holding your broken heart while the slow work of God transforms it?
Saint Francis de Sales beautifully reminds us: “Commune with them frequently, join in their songs of praise, and seek their protection and help in all you do, spiritual or temporal.” What a simple yet profound invitation—to acknowledge their presence, seek their help, and thank God for His loving care.
Today, I encourage you to pause for a moment and reflect on this gift. Offer a prayer of gratitude for your guardian angel. Become more attentive to the ways God may be guiding you through this faithful companion. The angel God appointed for you has never left your side and never will until you are safely home with Him.
