There is a promise woven through Scripture that feels especially tender to me today: Christ leading us to springs of life‑giving water, and God wiping away every tear. It’s a promise from Revelation, but it speaks directly into our present world, one where exhaustion runs deep, and tears often fall quietly, without witness.
“He will lead them to springs of life-giving water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” (Rv 7:17)
This is not poetic exaggeration. It is the heart of God.
Christ does not lead us to stagnant pools or shallow puddles. He leads us to living water—water that restores what has been drained, water that reaches the places inside us that feel cracked or thirsty. In a world where we often try to hydrate our spirits with busyness, achievement, or distraction, this promise feels like a gentle correction. We are meant to drink from something deeper.
And the image of God wiping away tears, what a profoundly intimate gesture. Not ignoring them. Not telling us to be strong. Not asking us to hide them. But wiping them away with the tenderness of someone who sees every sorrow we carry.
This is the God who meets us in the real world:
in the long nights, in the quiet fears, in the disappointments we don’t speak aloud.
Christ leads us toward what gives life, not what drains it. He guides us toward renewal, toward hope, toward the deep springs that remind us we are held. And God meets us there not with judgment, but with compassion.
Maybe this is the invitation for us today: to let ourselves be led, to stop resisting the path toward rest, to trust that the springs are real and meant for us.
And perhaps to believe that every tear we shed is seen, honored, and gently wiped away by the One who calls us beloved.
