Hope in the New Day

Some mornings, hope arrives quietly, slipping through the narrow slats of my plantation shutters as a bright, insistent beam of sun. It’s astonishing how something so simple can steady me. That brightness feels like a whisper from God, a reminder that this is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

There is something deeply grounding about watching the room fill with light. It’s not just the beauty of the sunrise, though that is gift enough. It’s the sense that God is already here; before prayer, before scripture, before I’ve even fully awakened. The Creator who makes all things new is already restoring, already enlivening, already anchoring the day.

Prayer prepares me for this moment. Scripture attunes me to it. But the embodied experience of sunlight—warm, steady, unearned—often becomes the place where hope lands most clearly. It’s as if God is saying: See, I am still making things new. I am still bringing life. I am still shining on you.

The brightness through the shutters becomes a kind of sacrament, a physical reminder of the spiritual truth that God’s renewing energy is not abstract. It meets us in our bodies, in our senses, in the ordinary rhythms of morning. It is the same God who breathed creation into being, who restores what is broken, who brings life out of death.

And so I sit with the light.
I let it fall on me.
I let it anchor me.
I let it remind me that hope is not something I must manufacture—it is something God gives.

This new day is a gift.
This new breath is a gift.
This new beginning is a gift.

May we receive it with gladness.
May we walk into it with trust.
May we let the Divine Sun shine on us—brightly, generously, without measure.
