“Dilexit Nos” doesn’t shy away from hard truths, pointing to wars and power struggles as signs that our world is “losing its heart.” It paints a heartbreaking picture of a world that is not moved by the suffering of others.
This is a powerful call to action for me, a reminder not to let my own heart grow cold. To own my belovedness is to recognize that all people are beloved by God. It means allowing my heart to be broken by what breaks His, so that I can be a vessel of His love and compassion in the world.
The encyclical states, “A world that does not feel this is intolerable is a world that has grown heartless.” As Micah 6:8 reminds us, “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
