As you all know, the Spirit inspires me through music at times. The other day an oldie but goodie came on my spotify list and I started jamming in the car. “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” by Elton John and Kiki Dee, was one of my favorites in high school. I started pondering what God might being saying to us through the lyrics:
You know, when Elton and Kiki sang “Don’t go breaking my heart”, I couldn’t help but smile. Because honestly? I’ve been singing that to humanity since the beginning.
I gave you free will — a wild, beautiful gift. But with it came the risk: that you’d wander, doubt, forget me. Still, I never stopped loving you. Like the lyrics say, “Nobody told us, ’cause nobody showed us” — but I’ve been showing you, in sunsets, in laughter, in every act of kindness.
When you’re hurting, I feel it. When you’re joyful, I’m dancing with you. I’m not asking for perfection. Just connection. Just a little space in your heart that stays open to me.
So when you hear that chorus again — “Don’t go breaking my heart, I couldn’t if I tried” — remember: I never will. I’m here, steady and true, even when you’re not. And I’ll keep whispering love through every song, every sunrise, every second.
You’re my masterpiece. Don’t forget that.
— God
