Being Loved

Allergic to Fault

There is no doubt that Jesus’ teaching caused division. This is true today. The life, preaching, and mission of Jesus are predicated upon the assumption that all is not well with us, that we stand in need of a renovation of vision, attitude, and behavior. We are not OK despite what our culture tries to impose on us.

Sin is often overlooked today. It’s not a part of our usual conversation. Our culture breeds in us an allergic reaction to admitting personal fault.

A salvation religion makes no sense if all is basically fine with us, and we just need a bit of sprucing up. Christian saints are those who bear the awful revelation that sin is not simply an abstraction or something that other people wrestle with, but a power that lurks and works in them.

When we lose sight of sin, we lose sight of Christianity, which is a salvation religion. This morning, my husband and I were having a conversation about as we get older, the more we realize we need saving. These saving cracks are where God’s grace fills us and draws us closer in right relationship.

Where are you allergic in your spirit, thinking you don’t need God? What are the barriers that block the flow of God’s grace in you?
