Finding God's Goodness

Week Thirty-Five. Self-Control. The Crosses We Bear.

Valuing My Body. Temperance with love leads to chastity.

What crosses do you bear in your daily life? For me it is watching the suffering of a friend, thoughts that what I do is never enough, and the constant striving to always do better. Another cross is accepting, with humility, what it takes to live a life with the perils of an aging body. For another, it is carrying the grief of loss after loss and having the strength to seek joy.

A humble heart allows me to bear these crosses and bring me closer to my creator. It provides self-control in my thoughts, rather than simply thinking that things should be different. It allows me to be grateful for all the good things in my life rather than focus on what the deception of my mind might make me think I lack.

The cross will not crush you, if its weight makes you stagger, it’s power will also sustain you.

Saint Padre Pio of Pietrelcina

Thank you Lord for the privilege to walk alongside You and help bear the weight of the cross for others, as You do for me.
