Humility is not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less. CS Lewis
Humility is sometimes called the queen of the virtues because it enables us to recognize what and who we are: a creature needing to “listen to the voice of the Lord, our God” and “take correction.” It is easy to slip into the self-sufficient attitude of the “strong man” who, “fully armed, guards his palace,” considering his possessions safe. Only the sweet grace of the Stronger One—the Lord—breaks through the barriers we erect around our hearts. Invaded by Christ’s love, we are no longer divided against ourselves. The “spoils are distributed”—we think, speak, and act with Christ, bearing fruit in the world.
Today, I will bear good fruit thinking of myself less, and serving others.
