There is a quiet honesty in Proverbs 19:21:
“Many plans are in a man’s mind, but it is the Lord’s purpose for him that will stand.”
We know this truth well. As people simply trying to live faithfully, our minds are full, full of ideas, hopes, strategies, timelines, and carefully sketched paths. We imagine how life should unfold, how ministry might grow, how relationships could heal, how our future ought to look.
But Scripture gently reminds us:
only God’s purpose endures.
This isn’t a dismissal of our planning. It’s an invitation to hold our plans with open hands. To trust that God’s wisdom is deeper than our foresight, and God’s timing more spacious than our urgency. It’s a reminder that the Spirit is always shaping something larger, quieter, and more life‑giving than anything we could design on our own.
Often, the Lord’s purpose becomes clear only in hindsight—after the detour, after the closed door, after the unexpected grace. What stands is not the plan we drafted, but the transformation God was quietly working within us all along.
So today, let this verse be a gentle grounding:
Your plans matter, but they are not ultimate.
Your desires matter, but they are not the whole story. What will stand, what will truly carry you, is the purpose of God unfolding in your life.
May we become people who listen for that purpose, trust its slow emergence, and surrender our plans with love.
