Light, Justice, and Steadfast Love

Today we honor Martin Luther King Jr., a man whose words still call us toward courage, compassion, and moral clarity. He reminded us that darkness and hatred can never heal the world—“only light” and “only love” can do that. His insistence on nonviolence wasn’t passive; it was a fierce commitment to transforming injustice without becoming what we resist. We dream the same dream he had if we are honest with ourselves…to be judged by our character.

Dr. King warned that silence in the face of wrongdoing erodes the soul: “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” Justice, for him, was a daily choice—especially in moments of challenge and controversy. “The time is always right to do what is right.”

He urged perseverance, even when the path feels steep: “If you can’t fly then run… but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” And his dream for his children still stands as a moral north star—that they would be judged not by skin color but by the content of their character.

To honor Dr. King is to live his message: to choose love over hate, courage over comfort, and justice over silence. His legacy continues every time we step toward the light.
