This second week of Advent moves us from hope into peace. The candles we light on our Advent wreath remind us that peace is not simply the absence of conflict, but the deep assurance that flows from trusting God. Without hope prepared in our hearts, peace cannot take root. Hope steadies us; peace settles us.
The psalmist writes: “Trust in the Lord and do good, then you will live in the land and be secure. If you find your delight in the Lord, he will grant your heart’s desire” (Psalm 37:3–4). Peace is born of this trust—of choosing to rest in God’s goodness rather than in our own strength.
John has invited us to make straight a path for the Lord and repent, or make a U-turn in our life, to let hope anchor us and peace enfold us. As we prepare for Christ’s coming, we discover that peace is not something we manufacture; it is God’s gift, given when we delight in Him.
May this second week of Advent be a time to breathe deeply of that peace, to let it quiet our anxieties, and to allow it to shape our witness in a restless world.
