Being Loved

Dethroning False Gods

In a world that worships more, faster, louder, and stronger, it takes courage to stop.

Consumerism promises fulfillment through accumulation. Power seduces us with control. Self-sufficiency whispers that we are enough on our own. These are the false gods of our age—glittering idols that demand our devotion but leave our souls hollow.

But Christ calls us to a different altar.

He invites us to live unclenched—to release our grip on possessions, prestige, and pride. To trust not in our own strength, but in the mercy of a God who became poor, powerless, and dependent for our sake.

To challenge these idols is not to condemn the world, but to reclaim our hearts. It is to say, “I will not bow to what cannot save.” It is to choose simplicity over excess, humility over dominance, and communion over isolation.

This is not easy. It is a daily surrender. But it is also a daily resurrection.

Let us be people who dare to live differently. Ones who dethrone the false gods by the way we love, forgive, and depend. Ones where kindness and generosity are our mantra. Ones who find joy not in having, but in giving. Who find strength not in control, but in surrender.

And in that surrender, we find the face of the true God—gentle, pierced, and gloriously alive.
