Being Loved

All Souls Day: A Fire of Mercy and Remembrance

Today, the Church gathers in solemn love to remember the souls of the faithful departed. All Souls Day is not a day of despair, but of hope—a sacred invitation to intercede for those who have gone before us, trusting in the mercy of God and the fire of His charity.

The custom of suffrage, offering masses, prayers and good works, is more than tradition; it is an urgent supplication. We ask God to purify the souls of the dead, to draw them into His Kingdom of light and life, and to console those who mourn with His peace.

United with the universal Church, we pray:

  • For those in our lives who are grieving: may they feel the gentle comfort of Christ.
  • For the repose of all who have died in our families and parish since last All Souls Day.
  • That the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, may rest in peace.
  • For the grace to live this week—and every moment—mindful of our own death, not in fear, but in holy readiness.
  • That we may never forget to pray for our beloved dead, whose lives shaped our own.

O most gentle Heart of Jesus, ever burning with love for the poor captive souls in purgatory, have mercy on your departed servants. Send your holy angels to conduct them to a place of refreshment, light, and peace. Amen.

Let this day rekindle our love for those we’ve lost, and deepen our trust in the One who conquers death with love.
