He lay at the gate, unseen. His sores licked by dogs, his hunger ignored. And I wonder—who lies at mine?
Today’s gospel of Jesus’ parable of the rich man and Lazarus pierces our comfort and calls us to attention. The rich man, clothed in luxury, failed to see the suffering at his doorstep. Lazarus, poor and afflicted, was invisible to him—but not to God. This story isn’t just about wealth. It’s about blindness. About the chasm we create when we ignore the cries of the vulnerable. It is about the urgency of repentance—not tomorrow, but today.
“They have Moses and the prophets. Let them listen to them.” We have the Gospel. We have Christ risen from the dead. Will we listen?
Today, look for the Lazarus at your gate. Who is suffering near you—unseen, unheard? Open your eyes. Open your heart. Mercy begins with attention. Let’s not wait for miracles to move us. Let love move us now.
