Being Loved

Equal Mindedness

How good are you at detachment? God uses everything in our lives as opportunities to draw near but do we truly discern which is the better door we open?

“All the things in this world are gifts of God, created for us, to be the means by which we can come to know him better, love him more surely, and serve him more faithfully.”

St. Ignatius of Loyola

If God can work through all things, and all things are fundamentally good, then the journey toward discerning His will begins with cultivating a spirit of “equal-mindedness.”

St. Ignatius of Loyola referred to this disposition as “indifference,” though today that word often carries connotations of apathy or disengagement. A more fitting term might be “equal-minded,” suggesting a heart that is open and willing to embrace either path presented, without preference—except in the case where one choice more fully honors and glorifies God.

Lord, help us discern your will and live in equal mindedness only choosing what more fully Honors and glorifies You. Amen
