Being Loved

The Mystery of Mary

Today marks the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a day that invites us to pause, reflect, and remember the extraordinary grace bestowed upon Mary—and what her journey means for us today.

As I sit with this mystery, I’m struck not just by the grandeur of Mary being assumed body and soul into heaven, but by the quiet, persistent faith that carried her there. Mary’s life wasn’t marked by ease or comfort. It was marked by surrender. From the moment she said “yes” to God’s plan, she walked a path of trust, even when the road was unclear.

In today’s world, where uncertainty often feels like the only constant, Mary’s Assumption reminds us that faith isn’t passive—it’s active. It’s choosing to believe in goodness, even when the headlines scream otherwise. It’s choosing to hope, even when our hearts are weary. It’s choosing to love, even when it costs us something.

Mary’s Assumption is not just a celebration of her reward—it’s a promise to us. A promise that our own “yes” to God, however imperfect, is seen. That our daily acts of love, our quiet sacrifices, our moments of courage—they matter. They are part of a divine story that leads us to our eternal home.

This feast also invites us to consider our own bodies and souls. In a culture that often separates the spiritual from the physical, Mary’s Assumption reminds us that both are sacred. That how we live, how we love, how we care for one another—it all echoes into eternity.

So today, I’m asking myself: Where am I being invited to say “yes” like Mary? Where am I being called to trust, to surrender, to believe in the goodness that God is weaving through my life?

And I invite you to ask the same.

May this Solemnity be more than a tradition—it can be a transformation. A moment to remember that we, too, are destined for glory. That goodness is not just something we admire—it’s something we live.

Mary, assumed into heaven, pray for us. Help us to say yes. Help us to trust. Help us to love.
