There is no doubt that Jesus’ teaching caused division. This is true today. The life, preaching, and mission of Jesus are predicated upon the assumption that all is not well with us, that we stand in need of a renovation of vision, attitude, and behavior. We are not OK despite what our culture tries to impose on us.

The word “faith” is the most misunderstood word in the religious vocabulary. And this is unfortunate, for faith stands at the very heart of what it meansto be a Christian. The opening line of Hebrews 11 has the right definition: “Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
