Being Loved

The Door of Something More

I’ve always been fascinated with doors. Mainly on vacation in foreign countries I snap pictures of interesting doors as I stroll down the historical streets especially in Europe.

As Christians, we have the chance to celebrate doors in a different context during this Jubilee year of “Hope.” I’ve begun my preparation to walk through such doors during my pilgrimage this fall.

If we look deeper, the holy door represents so much more. The Jubilee is a time “to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord” (Lk 4:19).

On one side of this door lies spiritual captivity, blindness and oppression. Passing through the Jubilee door is meant to help us realize that Jesus is calling us forward to freedom, fuller spiritual sight, and an abundant life free from fear.

But, it’s a moment that can be easily missed.

When we slow down and get in step with God’s timing, we feel the directive nudge. We can see the door through which we need to walk, leading us to life.
