Being Loved

Walking With Jesus

The Stations of the Cross, also known as the Way of the Cross, is a devotion that encourages prayer and meditation on the path Jesus walked to his crucifixion. According to one tradition, the Virgin Mary may have been the first to retrace the steps of her Son’s Passion.

It became common practice among early Christians visiting Jerusalem to walk the same path Jesus took from his condemnation by Pontius Pilate, to his death on Calvary, and finally to his burial in the tomb. It is called the Via Dolorosa (“Sorrowful Way”).

Today, we have the opportunity to walk this journey with Jesus through special services at church on Friday or even in our home in dedicated prayer. This walk gives us a deeper understanding of what Jesus went through to reach His passion.

It’s a powerful way to place yourself with Jesus as he walks in the darkest days his human life with the weight of humanity upon him yet in divine hope for the light of resurrection.

What is light in your life? What is darkness? Jesus came to bring light.
