Being Loved

Finding God

During this Lenten season, we again return to the Lord with our whole heart, entering into the Divine relationship of love.

Could you use the spark of romance or adventure in your life?

The purpose of lent is to call us to intimacy, to conversion and renewal of faith.  When we receive with open hearts the love of God we are called to be in divine union, divine intimacy.

Intimacy is about falling in love. It is not a feeling. It is not sentimental. It does not simply come and go. Intimacy revolves around a commitment to see the other as the One that loves me beyond anything I could ever imagine. Once that realization is made, intimacy allows us to rest in the truth that the Other sees me through and through.

Although our lives do not always go as we plan, God has promised to never leave or forsake us. In this season, he is moving and shifting us, so we will not depend on our usual support systems and the familiar road but to rely solely upon him. This season involves shaking off all that is temporary so that all of God will remain.

  • Prayer – restores our wounded relationship with God. Lent is a time of greater prayer, deeper prayer, and silence.
  • Fasting – (and self-denial) restores right order to the things to which we are attached.
  • Giving –  restores our relationship with others. Lent is a time for acts of charity towards others, be it financial or otherwise.

Pray. Fast. Give.

“Abide in me and I in you.” John:4-5

PRAYER: Out of love for God what extra prayer will I do this Lent?

FASTING: Out of love for God what will I deny myself this Lent? Think about an electronic fast.

What will I allow myself in moderation on Sundays?

GIVING: Out of love for God what acts of charity will I offer my neighbor?

Out of love for God, to what virtue will I aspire helped by grace?

For what intentions would I like to offer up my lenten observances?
